HOUSTON--()--As from 1st March 2016 most commercial vessels operating anywhere in USA ports, waterways, VTS areas and territorial waters will be required to have a USCG certified AIS transceiver fitted and operational on their vessel. This new rule was announced in January 2015 and gave all those affected until 1st March 2016 to comply.

em-trak Class A and Class B type AIS transceivers are all USCG certified and provide a highly robust and low cost solution for commercial vessel operators affected by the USCG Rule.

The USCG rule is part of a general adoption of AIS by the USCG and other maritime authorities to improve safety, efficiency and security of US territorial waters, VTS areas, ports and waterways. In Europe most commercial vessels, including fishing boats, are already mandated to have an AIS Class A with many vessel operators’ initial scepticism and resistance quickly turning positive as the operational and financial benefits of em-trak AIS transceivers became apparent.

em-trak AIS transceivers are designed and manufactured in Europe by SRT, the world’s leading developer and manufacturer of professional high performance AIS transceivers. em-trak transceivers are available across the USA from West Marine and Port Supply and all come with a 5 year gold standard warranty.
