Research and Markets: UK Trends in Leisure Activities Market Update 2015

DUBLIN--()--Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/7x2vn4/uk_trends_in) has announced the addition of the "UK Trends in Leisure Activities Market Update 2015" report to their offering.

The report states that the total household consumption expenditure on leisure activities in the UK grew by 5.5% 2014. Over the 5-year review period between 2010 and 2014, total expenditure rose by 14.9%. Figures from the same publication have shown that over the 5-year period, total household expenditure also increased, albeit by a slightly faster pace of 17.3%. As such, expenditure on leisure activities as a percentage of total household expenditure dropped from 17.1% in 2014.

The leisure activities market has grown impressively over the past 5 years, and is anticipated to continue doing so going forward; however, the market is highly susceptible to fluctuations in the economic performance of the UK. While this generally applies to the majority of economic sectors, it is especially true for leisure activities, as such services and products are viewed more as luxuries as opposed to essentials, meaning that in times of economic difficulty, such products and services are more easily cut from family budgets than other outgoings.

Looking forward, the report forecasts that rising disposable incomes, falling unemployment, low inflation and improving economic optimism will persuade consumers to spend a greater level of money on leisure activities. The market will also be buoyed by the rising resident population of the UK. In addition, certain sectors of the leisure activities market will benefit from social demographic shifts such as the ageing population of the UK, which will befit leisure activities traditionally associated with older groups, for instance gardening.

As such, the report forecasts that the total value of household expenditure on leisure activities will rise annually between 2015 and 2019. It is predicted that all sectors of the market will exhibit growth over the coming 5-year period, with the exception of the newspapers, books and stationery sector, which is forecast to undergo a modest decline.
