Modern Teacher Announces Strategic Partnership with SERRC- Alaska’s Educational Resource Center, to Digitize Culturally-Responsive Curriculum and Serve Alaska’s Most Remote Districts

DENVER--()--Today, Modern Teacher announced one of its most innovative partnerships to date, with SERRC- Alaska’s Educational Resource Center to provide a researched-based methodology for PreK-12 digital convergence in education. The proprietary methodology addresses a technology adoption crisis in America’s classrooms by focusing on the entire school system and its interrelated parts.

SERRC, in partnership with Modern Teacher, the Teaching Channel, and Sealaska Heritage Institute has been awarded a $3.2 million grant from the United States Department of Education.

“We are excited to be part of this historic and significant project,” said Dr. Shawn K. Smith, president of Modern Teacher. “The leadership at SERRC continue to inspire and captivate us at Modern Teacher. This partnership will help ensure the successful adoption of technology in the classroom by creating a new vision for instructional design and delivery in today’s highly digitized world.”

SERRC Executive Director Sheryl Weinberg is also excited about the partnership. “We believe in equity when it comes to educational opportunities for our students. We are continuously looking for innovative ways to accomplish this. Leveraging today’s advanced technology tools to deliver high-quality, relevant curriculum is a frontier we are deeply interested in pursuing.”

Gerry Briscoe, Director of Professional Learning at SERRC and responsible for the grant application also commented, “High-quality public education is a moral imperative. The promise of moving digital and bringing the necessary and vital resources to all of our students is exciting.” Mr. Briscoe will also lead up the grant as Project Director for PASSAGES. “My focus will be on innovating ways we can promote culturally responsive strategies within today’s technology tools. Digital convergence is the anchor for this.”

Modern Teacher uses a systemic approach when working with schools as they adopt new technology. While many districts have purchased the latest devices and software, SERRC and Modern Teacher know that few have mastered the ability to integrate these tools to transform teaching, learning, and student outcomes.

SERRC Alaska’s Educational Resource Center operates more than 30 programs and services supporting over 50,000 students each year.

Modern Teacher is an educational technology company supporting PreK-12 education with digital convergence. With a mission to maximize teaching and learning in the digital world, Modern Teacher’s vision is to empower a half a million teachers and 10,000 schools with digital transformation by 2020.
