LONDON--()--After correctly predicting the weather for summer and autumn, leading weather provider, The Weather Network today publishes its annual UK winter forecast for the next three months.

So what can we expect? This winter should see more snow days compared to last year with the coldest weather expected in February, as the season starts mild and ends on a cold note.

We’ll see a wet and windy start to the season, especially in Scotland and across Wales, western England and Ireland, with southern and eastern areas staying much drier. The December weather could even bring with it a risk of some localised flooding and severe gales, turning colder later in the month with snow showers over northern hills.

As spring looms, there are indications of a more prolonged cold snap in February bringing widespread frost and fog, this season it looks like you’ll need to keep those thermals on for that bit longer.

Dr. Simon Keeling, forecaster for The Weather Network, commented: “It is going to turn colder in late December so we cannot rule out a White Christmas over the northern hills. But 2016 will welcome back the wind, rain and milder temperatures with the colder air not returning until later in January or into February.

Of course long-range forecasts are subject to change but with the milder start and colder end to the season, it’s a winter of two halves.”
