Wireless Innovation Forum Announces New Documents Published and Available Publicly

Two New Spectrum Sharing Reports, One Tactical Radio Report and the Best Paper Award Winner from WInnComm-Europe 2015 Now Available

WASHINGTON--()--The Wireless Innovation Forum announced today the release and public availability of three new reports and the best paper from the recent WInnComm-Europe 2015. The International Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standard’s (CC SCA) “Business Models for New Entrants in the SDR Tactical Radio Market,” and the Spectrum Sharing Committee’s (SSC) “SSC WG4 Certification Process” and “Interim SAS to CBSD Protocol Technical Report-A” were approved for public release by Forum members recently. The paper “Using OPENCL to increase SCA application portability,” by Steve Bernier, François Levesque and Martin Phisel (NordiaSoft, Canada) and David Hagood (Aeroflex, USA) was presented at the recent WInnComm-Europe 2015 and awarded best paper on 8 October.

After a first release in 2013, the Forum is announcing the release of its new 2015 Business Models for New Entrants in the SDR Tactical Radio Market report. The main focus of this report is to highlight key updates on the market of SDR tactical communications as well as provide new views on SDR business models though the introduction of new examples highlighting usage of the SDR standard together with deployment of a waveform centric approach for the network centric operations transition.

“The new release of the market report concludes important efforts of the Forum and its members, among them all the main stakeholders of the SDR industry for the tactical communications market,” said David Renaudeau, Chair of the Forum’s International Tactical Radio Special Interest Group (ITR-SIG). The Certification Process report provides a visual representation of the flow of certification standards for the spectrum access system (SAS) and across the various interfaces within the system. As stated in the report, requirements, protocols, specifications, and interfaces are defined by SSC Working Groups 1, 2, and 3. The specifications are derived from FCC, NTIA, and DoD requirements as well as requirements derived by industry through the WInnForum process. Based on these requirements, SSC work group 4 (WG4) then develops the test cases for the certification flow. Per the goals of the group, certification is limited to what is the minimum needed for the creation of a simple and standard certification process for an open and interoperable system. The Interim SAS to CBSD Protocol Technical Report A describes various high-level concepts and principles relating to SAS and CBSD operation. This Technical Report (TR) document is the first in an envisioned series of Technical Reports, the sum of which may be combined to embody a complete Technical Report for a SAS-to-CBSD interface. It is to be noted that this TR reflects the discussions in WInnForum Spectrum Sharing Committee (SSC) Work Group 3 (WG3) as of the date mentioned on the cover page and is not the final version of the TR. As work progresses, the TR will be updated accordingly to reflect any updates in WG3. The report can be found here: http://groups.winnforum.org/d/do/8699.

The paper “Using OPENCL to increase SCA application portability,” by Steve Bernier, François Levesque and Martin Phisel (NordiaSoft, Canada) and David Hagood (Aeroflex, USA) was presented at the recent WInnComm-Europe 2015 and awarded best paper on 8 October. The paper was chosen by a panel of judges based on the results of the conference peer review process.
