American Water Names Cheryl Norton President of Missouri American Water

ST. LOUIS--()--Cheryl Norton has been named president of Missouri American Water, effective Nov. 11. Norton is replacing Frank Kartmann, who has served as president of Missouri American Water since 2009.

A native of northwestern Missouri near Kansas City and St. Joseph, Norton most recently served as president of Kentucky American Water, which provides high-quality and reliable water services to approximately half a million people in that state. In her new role, Norton will be responsible for overall operating and financial performance, as well as strengthening the company’s customer, regulatory and local government relationships. She will also be the principal executive contact for American Water in Missouri.

Norton started her career with American Water in 1988 as a research technician at the company’s Central Laboratory in Belleville, Ill., which provides services for American Water subsidiaries across the country. From 2000 to 2007, she served as the laboratory’s director.

In 2010, Norton was appointed vice president of Operations for Illinois American Water. In this role, she was responsible for all aspects of providing high-quality water and wastewater services to more than 1.2 million customers throughout the state.

Norton serves on the executive committees of Commerce Lexington and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, and is a board member of United Way of the Bluegrass, American Red Cross – Bluegrass Chapter, Strides Ahead, and The Triangle Foundation. She also serves on the advisory council of Women Leading Kentucky.

Norton received a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in environmental studies from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
