New York Life Hires Brian Jacobs to Head U.S. Retail Distribution for MainStay Investments

Accomplished Sales Executive Joins $300 Billion Global Asset Manager to Lead Retail Sales across the MainStay Mutual Fund Family and IndexIQ ETF Platform

NEW YORK--()--MainStay Investments (“MainStay”), a New York Life company, today announced the appointment of 25-year global asset management industry veteran Brian Jacobs as Head of U.S. Retail Distribution. In this role, Mr. Jacobs will be responsible for leading retail distribution in the United States for New York Life's industry recognized1 global asset management business, which includes the MainStay Mutual Fund Family, its alternative ETF provider, IndexIQ and select boutiques from New York Life Investment Management (“NYLIM”). Reporting to Mr. Jacobs is MainStay and IndexIQ's established wholesaling and product specialist teams. Jacobs will report to Stephen Fisher, President of New York Life Investment Management and President of MainStay Investments.

Before joining New York Life, Mr. Jacobs served as President at Direxion Investments, a privately held leading ETF sponsor, where he was responsible for building and diversifying the firm’s asset base. Prior to that he was a leading industry consultant at the firm he founded, Jacobs Strategic Consulting. There, he consulted with a number of major asset managers and, among other projects, structured a long-term joint venture to launch and distribute a wide range of alternative mutual funds for his client, Cliffwater LLC, with Virtus Investment Partners (VRTS). Previously, Mr. Jacobs served as CEO of Hatteras Funds, a boutique alternative investment specialist. He joined Hatteras after more than 18 years at two large asset management organizations — Eaton Vance and Allianz/PIMCO. Between 1990 and 2008, Brian led the firm's sales teams, which raised more than $150 billion in assets; he also organized and completed 24 closed-end fund I.P.O's.

Mr. Jacobs completed the Allianz Global Leadership Program at the International Institute for Management Development (I.M.D.) in Lausanne, Switzerland. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Montclair State University and holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation. Brian is the former Chairman of the Board of Governors for Money Management Institute and Board Member of the Foundation for Financial Planning. He is currently a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University.
