Optomec Highlights Production Advancements for Smart Internet of Things Devices at International Symposium

Advancements Enable High Volume Printing of Conformal Sensors and Antennas onto 3D Structures

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--()--Optomec, a leading global supplier of production grade additive manufacturing systems for 3D printed metals and printed electronics, announced today that Dr. David Sessoms, Advanced Applications Engineer for Optomec, will present at the iMAPS 2015 Advanced Packaging & the Internet of Things: The Future of Our Industry Conference on October 28, 2015 in Orlando, Fla. This annual gathering is one of the largest symposiums dedicated to microelectronics and packaging.

Dr. Sessoms’ presentation is titled “Aerosol Jet Enabled 3D Antenna and Sensors for Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) Applications.” Dr. Sessoms will discuss how Optomec Aerosol Jet technology is utilized for high volume printing of conformal sensors and antennas directly onto preformed 3D structures. There is fast growing demand for antennas and sensors for consumer and industrial products, including smartphones, wearables, structural components and other devices related to the Internet of Things (IoT). While IoT applications are varied, the common requirement for such “Smart Connected Devices” is an inherent need for sensors (“smart”) and antennas (“connected”). Emerging 3-Dimensional “Direct Write” approaches for creating antennas and sensors enable rapid design and prototyping, reduce manufacturing steps and associated costs, and broaden the choice of target substrate shapes and materials. Optomec Aerosol Jet technology is a non-contact, room temperature deposition method that is used to print a wide variety of materials, including conductive, semiconducting, ceramic, CNT, graphene and other functional inks suitable for the fabrication of antennas, sensors and other functional electronics.
