HKTDC: New Reading Experiences and Intellectual Discourse: the Hong Kong Combined Stand at Frankfurt Book Fair

FRANKFURT, Germany--()--Frankfurt Book Fair is the meeting point for the international publishing industry. From October 14 to 18, 2015 the combined stand organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) in Hall 4.0, stand A26 presents literature for all ages, specialist, non-fictional and audio books as well as E-books, apps, print and packaging solutions.

Hung Hing Off-Set Printing Co. Ltd., one of the leading suppliers of high-quality printing and packaging materials will once again attend the fair. Among others it combines digital and print media such as “Bridging Books” where the conventional book is supplemented with mobile apps or the “Little Musician” series which reproduces notes audibly using music cards on smart devices. Merit Corporation Limited will present its patented “The Image” laser process making three overlapping motifs visible as individual images from various angles.

The Hong Kong University Press publishes scientific works devoting to Asian history, literature, humanities and social sciences. Digital and printed educational books in English and Chinese as well as apps are produced by Sage Foundation Intellect Ltd..

Also attending are PCL (HK) Company Limited with gift boxes, elegant notebooks, diaries and bookmarks, the City University of Hong Kong Press with scientific and educational works, the publisher Chinese Bible International Ltd. and the printing company Publishing Workshop Ltd. presenting the book “My Youth, My June Fourth” by Shao Gang.

New challenges such as shorter production times, lower production costs or the demand for eco-friendly printing materials are met by Hong Kong through modern printing technologies corresponding to Western standards confirming its position as one of the largest printing centres worldwide. From January till August 2015, Hong Kong´s print product exports rose to around USD 1.7 billion (+1.8%) with the USA, China, Great Britain and Australia as main export markets.

The high quality of print products was also confirmed by the “Hong Kong Print Awards” organized by the Graphic Arts Association of Hong Kong (GAAHK), the Hong Kong Publishing Professionals Society and the HKTDC. The best-known competition of the Hong Kong publishing, printing and design industry honoured eleven literary works in 2015.

The Hong Kong Book Fair, organized by the HKTDC, is evidence of Hong Kong´s lively literature scene. It will take place from July 20 to 26, 2016.
