New Entrant into Sampling Sector Harnesses 70% of Fresher Student Market – 320,000 University Students DigIn to Their Welcome Parcel.

LONDON--()--DigIn, a new company formed in July 2015 following a buy-out of the helloU sampling division sees significant growth following innovative new strategy around student sampling.

This week DigIn successfully completed the 2015 Welcome Parcel Project, delivering over 100 variations of the DigIn Box into the bedrooms of 320,000 new students. Placed end to end the parcels delivered would stretch from London to Brighton, stacked they would build a tower 3 times higher than Everest.

Each Parcel contained a campus map and important information from the University alongside products and samples from brands such as Boots, Cadbury and Giff Gaff.

September 18th, marked the launch of the DigIn Portal, which at the time of writing (October 1st) has already resulted in almost 500,000 product feedback responses for Boost Energy, Marmite and Drink Me Chai. The portal has delivered successful customer acquisition campaigns for Uber and Deliveroo, and has produced 50,000 Facebook verified opt ins to receive ongoing offers and samples from DigIn throughout the year.

Christopher Platt - Managing Director:

“Our relationships with the Universities is our core strength and a privilege we value highly. We have a duty to deliver a streamlined hassle-free service, with a relevant and engaging welcome parcel that reflects on them well.

For the brands we work with, our service efficiently delivers samples into the hands of a very specific and very important audience. Students are new entrants into the broader UK retail economy. They are highly influential in social media and are unlikely to have developed brand loyalties yet. For brands that want to target the student market; sector exclusivity in the DigIn box provides an opportunity to engage with students before their competitors.

10 days after its launch, the DigIn portal achieved an initial 15% product feedback rate from the parcel run and 50,000 new sign ups. This enables us to offer detailed campaign reporting and insight to our customers. It also allows us to deliver all-year-round sampling and promotional campaigns to an audience that can be refined by filters such as sex, location and how they rated a product.

In the course of the project, we have packed and delivered over 2 million samples in 320,00 parcels with 120 variations. Approximately 70% of all first year students received the DigIn Welcome Parcel this year, and every DigIn Box was in place to greet a student as they opened the door for the first time to their (otherwise empty) new room.

In 2016 DigIn will deliver the Welcome Box to over 350,000 students. It will include more samples across more sectors. Responding to student feedback, we want to expand our range of samples in the personal care and health sectors.

We will continue to grow our social media engagement and value to DigIn members by delivering high standard, relevant samples, competitions and offers throughout their stay at University.

Plans for year 2 include launching New Year and Summer welcome parcels for each University.”
