Digital Lumens CFO Chairs American Heart Association’s Heart Challenge for the Second Consecutive Year

Digital Lumens Sponsors Second Annual Event Founded by its CFO

BOSTON--()--Digital Lumens, the leader in intelligent LED lighting systems, today announced that Mike Rubino, its Chief Financial Officer, will chair the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2015 Heart Challenge 5K Obstacle Trail Run for the second consecutive year. The Digital Lumens-sponsored event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Prowse Farm in Canton, Mass.

Digital Lumens supports heart health research and education by sponsoring the Heart Challenge. The company will have 24 employees participating in this year’s event, and will be donating $5,000 in addition to employee contributions to AHA research.

“I was fortunate enough to survive a potentially fatal heart-related episode, thanks to having the right people around me at the right time,” said Rubino. “Now it is time to support the AHA to encourage others to live heart-healthy and support research and education. This 5K is designed to do just that – all while getting a challenging workout alongside friends and family.”

The AHA is devoted to saving people from heart disease and stroke – the two leading causes of death in the world. After recovering from cardiac arrest in June 2012 following a routine warm-up jog, Rubino attributes his survival to his boot camp instructor who responded quickly with CPR until EMTs arrived. Rubino then founded the 5K Obstacle Trail Run in 2014 to raise awareness and funds to benefit research, education, and advocacy for the AHA.

Rubino is a Boston-resident who has spent much of his career as a business executive leading financial and operational facets of high-growth private and public companies, currently as CFO of Digital Lumens. Prior to joining the company, he worked for A123 Systems, Maker Communications, and Agile Networks.

The second annual Heart Challenge is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015 at Prowse Farm, 5 Blue Hill River Road in Canton from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The 5K will be followed by an on-site fall festival celebration with live music and Hands-Only CPR Trainings. In addition to Digital Lumens, the Heart Challenge is locally sponsored by Goodwin Proctor LLP, Hanover Insurance Group (Worcester, MA), Blue Cross Blue Shield, CFGI, and Latham & Watkins LLP.
