Ingersoll Rand Introduces New TURBO-AIR NX 8000 Integrally Geared Centrifugal Compressor

New compressor optimizes flow and efficiency within a compact footprint

DAVIDSON, N.C.--()--Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR) a global leader in compressed air and gas systems and services, power tools, material handling and fluid management equipment, will debut the TURBO-AIR® NX 8000 integrally geared centrifugal compressor at the Turbomachinery & Pump Symposia, September 14 in Houston, Texas. The TURBO-AIR NX 8000 compressor can be configured for many different applications and the updated design brings the key system components closer to the edge of the package for easier access. The control, lubrication and cooling systems on the TURBO-AIR NX 8000 optimize flow and operational efficiency, resulting in low total lifecycle costs.

Built on a robust platform, the TURBO-AIR NX 8000 is rated for powers from 750 kW to 1,700 kW (1,000-2,250 hp) with flows from 142 to 283 m3/min (5,000-10,000 CFM) and pressures from 3.5 to 14.5 barg (50-210 psig).

“The TURBO-AIR NX 8000 will help customers achieve the bottom line results that are at the forefront of every plant manager’s mind; to optimize flow and efficiency in a highly reliable and compact package,” said Cary Collins, engineered centrifugal compression leader of the Compressed Air and Gas Systems and Services business at Ingersoll Rand. “When we designed the TURBO-AIR NX 8000 we focused on enhancing the overall reliability of the complete package in order to minimize downtime. The design also achieves exceptionally low internal pressure drops that translate into efficiency gains. Both enhancements result in a lower cost of ownership for the operator.”

The TURBO-AIR NX 8000’s lubrication reservoir tank doubles as the sub-base of the compressor, allowing it to retain lubrication fluid and as well as serve as the foundation for the compressor and its major sub-components. The sub-base is built with two heavy-duty I-beams and plate steel in the new design to improve the structural strength of the compressor package. The basic trim package includes a temperature probe, level gauge and heater.

The standard package and available package options of the TURBO-AIR NX 8000 centrifugal compressor make it a distinctive choice for a variety of industries including: glass manufacturing, automotive, textiles, and air separation. The TURBO-AIR NX 8000 can also be packaged in compliance with American Petroleum Institute (API) 614, 670, 671 and 672 standards making it a great fit for many oil and gas applications and other highly specified uses.

The TURBO-AIR NX 8000 compressor comes equipped with a variety of features:

- MAESTRO™ Universal SP Control System – A split-panel design separates access for single-phase and three-phase circuits. A single-point electrical service connection provides quick, hassle-free installation and maintenance, all while providing exceptional compressor monitoring and set-point control.

- Lubrication System – A coolant-side temperature control valve regulates coolant flow to optimize system efficiency, and the SAE connections ensure a leak-free operation.

- Compressor Cooling System – The TURBO-AIR standard water-in-tube intercooler design is constructed with high quality materials and precise manufacturing tolerances for distinct heat transfer properties and compressor performance. Interchangeable water headers were specially designed to integrate the water manifold and distribution system with an optional trim valve, again simplifying installation and increasing performance.

- Gearbox – The unit’s standard design includes a removable cover along a horizontal split-line for ease of inspection and maintenance, and a high-gloss epoxy based exterior finish. The gearbox has been specially designed to deliver oil to the rotating parts of the compressor with very limited piping both internally and externally. Special consideration was also given to enable API-type customization, including special instrumentation and monitoring mounting locations and access at various points on the gearbox.
