USAID Awards Tetra Tech a $47M Biodiversity and Forestry Conservation Contract

PASADENA, Calif.--()--Tetra Tech, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTEK) announced today that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded the Company a $47 million single award contract, LESTARI, to promote climate-smart ecosystems, protect biodiversity, and conserve forested areas in Indonesia.

Indonesia possesses some of the planet’s most biologically diverse and carbon-rich ecosystems. The country’s forests and mangroves provide habitat to highly valued species, support the livelihoods of millions of Indonesians, and have the potential to mitigate global climate change through carbon sequestration. These ecosystems are threatened by deforestation and unsustainable land-use practices that accelerate the release of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while increasing the vulnerability of forest and coastal communities to extreme weather events such as floods and forest fires.

Under the five-year USAID LESTARI project, Tetra Tech will work with the Government of Indonesia and civil society leaders to mitigate these threats, reduce land-based GHG emissions, and conserve valuable biodiversity in priority landscapes in the provinces of Aceh, Kalimantan, and Papua. Working at the national, provincial, and local levels, Tetra Tech will help strengthen the management of conservation areas, prepare and implement low emission development policies, and support conservation-oriented decision-making to retain the health of Indonesia’s biodiverse ecosystems.

“We look forward to continuing our support to USAID on the Global Climate Change Presidential Initiative and biodiversity conservation strategies in Indonesia,” said Dan Batrack, Tetra Tech’s Chairman and CEO. The USAID LESTARI project builds on Tetra Tech’s work under the USAID Indonesia Forestry and Climate Support project.
