Navy Petty Officer Honored by Legion for Community Service

BALTIMORE--()--Fredelyne Dolores, a hospital corpsman with the U.S. Navy, was awarded The American Legion’s 2015 Spirit of Service Award on Sept. 1 during the organization’s 97th National Convention in Baltimore.

Dolores joined the Navy in 2007 and is currently stationed at the Naval Medical Center San Diego.

Dolores’ volunteer efforts include distributing food to families in need; helping handicapped athletes participate in a tennis tournament through the YMCA; serving as a Girl Scouts first aid instructor; and helping with blood banks.

She’s also volunteered with several non-profit organizations, including Urban Angels and the Salvation Army.

American Legion National Commander Michael D. Helm and Medal of Honor recipient Ryan Pitts presented the Spirit of Service Award to Dolores during The American Legion’s 97th National Convention at the Baltimore Convention Center. She was honored alongside representatives from the other four armed services at the annual business gathering of the 2.2 million-member Legion, the nation's largest veterans organization. Helm presented Dolores a membership in The American Legion as part of the award.

“(It’s) fantastic to becoming part of an organization that’s dedicated to help improve the lives of our veterans and the community through selfless acts,” Dolores said.
