HORSHAM, Pa.--()--As part of its commitment to promote a healthy lifestyle and physical activity, Grupo Bimbo is offering competitive and non-professional runners a chance to be part of Global Energy, a one-of-a-kind race happening around the world — across 22 cities in 19 countries, including two locations in the U.S. — on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU), the U.S. division of Grupo Bimbo, will host events in the Philadelphia region at Washington Crossing Historic Park and in Long Beach, Calif., at Marina Green Park. Other participating cities all racing on the same day will span Asia, Europe and South America, with the races starting at 9 a.m. in Beijing, and concluding with the 9 a.m. start in Long Beach.

The U.S. races will include two distances: a family-fun 3K for walkers and beginner runners, and a 10K for competitive runners. All participants will receive a free T-shirt, and 10K competitors will receive a Global Energy Race medal. Additionally, the winners of each age group in the 10K race will automatically receive a complimentary entry into the 2016 Global Energy Race.

For a full list of Global Energy cities, logistical information and to register, interested participants can visit the Global Energy Race website, which is offered in four languages. Registrants can then download the Global Energy mobile app for training and workout tips to prepare for race day on Sept. 27.

“Runners and walkers participating in Global Energy have a special opportunity to be part of this one-of-a-kind experience, running alongside 100,000 others from around the world — in 22 different cities — to achieve a common goal of being active,” said Renee D. Zendejas, senior brand manager of Bimbo Bakeries. “At Bimbo, we aim to empower individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles and encourage them to achieve tangible benefits by coupling a balanced diet with physical activity. Small actions such as walking or running can significantly improve our quality of life.”

Grupo Bimbo is the leading baking company in the world, with more than 128,000 associates, many of whom are registered for Global Energy. It produces over 10,000 products under more than 100 household brands in categories such as sliced bread, buns and toast. As part of its pillar to support wellbeing, Bimbo has worked consistently on five action lines: products, nutritional information, alliances and research, responsible marketing and promotion of physical activity — such as the creation of Global Energy.

On a worldwide level, Global Energy is sponsored by Powerade and Spotify, with Fox Sports serving as the exclusive media partner. Additionally, Bimbo is hosting the race in partnership with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. In the U.S., sponsors include ACME Markets in the greater Philadelphia area, and Northgate Market in California.
