Simply Hired Reports U.S. Job Listings Grew 4% in July

Technology represents nearly 1 in 10 (9.3%) of available jobs in the U.S.; top roles include software engineer, network engineer and web developer

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--()--Simply Hired, the largest independent job search engine with properties in 24 countries and 12 languages, today released its Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook for July 2015. This report analyzes Simply Hired’s comprehensive index of millions of online job listings in every occupation to provide detailed insight into national and local job trends. According to the new research findings, nationwide job listings increased by 4.00% between June 2015 and July 2015. This is the sixth consecutive month of growth in job listings and the largest month-over-month gain reported this year.

The technology industry is a substantial contributor to U.S. job growth heading into the fall. Technology jobs makes up 9.3% of all job openings on Simply Hired. The five technology jobs in highest demand across the nation include software engineer, network engineer, web developer, QA engineer, and data scientist. The companies with the most tech jobs available nationwide are Oracle, Microsoft, Apple, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon.

While significant tech opportunities are available to job seekers in every major U.S. metro, the concentration of tech jobs is highest in San Francisco / Silicon Valley where nearly 1 in 3 job openings (30.62%) is tech-related. Technology also drives significant hiring in Seattle (24.16% of job openings), Austin (23.67%), Raleigh-Durham (21.74%), and Denver (19.32%). The Simply Hired U.S. Employment Outlook also provides comprehensive data on job opening by metro. Key findings include:

  • All major metros post gains. The job market showed gains in all areas of the United States as job openings rose in all 25 of the top 25 largest U.S. metros in July 2015. The largest month-over-month increases occurred in Denver, CO (5.84%), Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN (5.71%), and Philadelphia, PA (5.60%).
  • Metro spotlight: Austin, TX. Austin had 44,357 job listings in July 2015, including 10,896 open technology positions. The tech roles most in demand in Austin are software engineer (1,763 job listings), web developer (1,464 job listings), QA engineer (1,436 job listings), mobile developer (849 job listings) and network engineer (788 job listings). Austin employers with the most open tech jobs include: Dell, IBM, Visa, EA, and Cisco.
