Being a Savvy Health Care Consumer Pays with New PriorityRewards

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--()--Members of a Michigan health insurance company are being rewarded for making informed decisions about their care. PriorityRewards, from Priority Health, is an incentive program that rewards people up to $200 for choosing a fair-priced medical procedure through the company’s cost estimating tool.

High deductible health plans continue to grow in popularity across the country. In fact, Michigan ranks fifth in the nation for the number of people with high-deductible plans. Until now, consumers have had limited access to information about the cost or quality of care, leaving them paying more out of pocket. With the recent introduction of Priority Health’s Cost Estimator tool, members are able to understand what they will pay for a procedure and how they could pay less.

The price of procedures may vary by hundreds, even thousands, depending on the facility. Knowing the cost of care and where to receive it could save consumers thousands and put a Visa® gift card in their pocket.

“At Priority Health we offer tools to ensure our members receive the highest-quality care at the best price,” said Joan Budden, chief marketing officer of Priority Health. “PriorityRewards is a new feature that will help consumers keep more money in their pocket – and even earn money for being engaged in their care.”

How PriorityRewards Works

PriorityRewards combines the power of the Cost Estimator with financial incentives for consumers who use the tool. The Cost Estimator is available on priorityhealth.com through the Member Center or the Priority Health mobile app. There, members have instant access to cost information, based on their individual health plan, for more than 300 common health care procedures. The Cost Estimator will calculate how much members will owe and provide reviews and quality information on the provider selected.

With PriorityRewards, members may earn cash rewards for selecting a procedure and facility combination offered at or below the fair market price. Fair market prices are determined by Healthcare Bluebook, an independent company that provides statewide comparisons of pricing and quality on health care procedures. Once the procedure has been completed, Priority Health will reward members in the form of a Visa gift card ranging from $50-200.

"PriorityRewards is another example of how we are committed to improving the health and lives of our members,” said Budden. “Through increased engagement and transparency, Priority Health is leading Michigan in the reduction of health care costs.”
