HOUSTON--()--The Neuhaus Education Center (NEC), a nonprofit organization committed to promoting reading success, today announced the appointment of Dr. Tracy Weeden as the Center’s new President and CEO.

“After an extensive national search, we are extremely fortunate to have such a talented leader join our organization,” said Amy Melton, Chair of the Neuhaus Board of Trustees. “Dr. Weeden’s passion, commitment, and innovative thinking will undoubtedly help further the Center’s mission to promote reading success by providing evidence-based professional development to educators, information and resources to families, and direct services to adult learners. Under her leadership, I am confident the NEC will continue to make great strides as we combat the inability of children and adults to read: a problem which has been declared a public health issue by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). We are excited to welcome Dr. Weeden to our team.”

Dr. Weeden joins Neuhaus from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Intervention Services Group (a division recently acquired from Scholastic Achievement Partners), where she most recently served as the Executive Director of Academic Planning. In this capacity, Dr. Weeden provided executive consulting nationally on the development of systems that helped school districts improve student achievement and address barriers to rigorous, relevant learning. Prior to Scholastic Achievement Partners, she spent six years as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Houston Independent School District.

“I am honored to join this learning organization,” said Dr. Weeden. “Imagine the difference it would make if educators across the country were equipped to lay the foundation for a lifetime of literacy; if teachers everywhere had the knowledge and resources to anticipate reading challenges, along with the tools and skills to address them effectively. The goal at Neuhaus is to make that knowledge a reality for educators and enable all students to experience reading as a given right. I am passionate in my belief that all individuals deserve the chance to become literate, contributing members of society. I know this can be accomplished through the outstanding programs and resources available through Neuhaus.”

A graduate from the University of Detroit, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication and a minor in English, Tracy also received her Master of Education and her Ed.D in Administration & Supervision from the University of Houston.
