Nichols Dollar Saver Improves Customer Engagement with Birdzi’s Location Analytics and Mobile Applications

ISELIN, N.J.--()--Birdzi, a provider of location analytics and mobile applications for personalized shopper engagement, today announced that Nichols Dollar Saver, an independent grocery retailer in Oklahoma, will be implementing Birdzi to provide personalized digital savings to shoppers. Nichols also has joined Birdzi’s Personiphi Network, allowing customers to access additional savings on products they want to buy.

The grocer will replace its previous digital coupons application with Birdzi’s platform in a pilot store this summer, and the applications will be available in the five remaining Nichols stores by late 2015. Nichols is deploying the next-generation version of Birdzi’s app, which includes multi-lingual support, as well as support for billboards, community events or any other content that grocers wish to promote.

After deploying a number of customer loyalty and coupon programs, Nichols wanted to replace its digital coupon and in-store apps with a single solution for personalized customer engagement. While reviewing the options, Nichols found that Birdzi met their needs and will allow the grocer to offer omni-channel personalized savings through the grocer’s website, mobile browser, mobile application and email, offering Nichols the opportunity to increase engagement, particularly with millennial shoppers.

Personalized digital saving leads to improved customer engagement

In a typical weekly ad, Nichols offers upwards of 600 specials and sales. Birdzi allows Nichols to gain insights into individual customer behavior, recognizing that each shopper is unique, and offer targeted sales and specials to shoppers. Along with Birdzi’s personalization engine that incorporates sophisticated machine learning and in-store technology, including iBeacons, Nichols can deliver an individualized shopping experience to each customer.

“For the past three to four years we have sought a solution that enables targeted marketing and engages customers in a way that only technology allows. Birdzi met those needs,” said Matthew Vandiver, Director of IT/MIS/CRM at Nichols Dollar Saver. “At any given time we have between 400 and 600 items on sale, but a single customer may have only purchased 25 of those items. With Birdzi, we can tailor that ad for an individual customer, ensuring that they are notified of the sale items they previously purchased.”

Smartphone application delivers savings to growing shopper segment—millennials

The spending habits of Generation Y are gaining on baby boomers, and the growing shopper segment wants savings at their fingertips. With targeted marketing and a mobile application powered by Birdzi, Nichols can reach millennials and deliver savings to their smartphones, whether it is through a mobile browser, application or email, as they shop.

“The technology Birdzi provides meets the needs of millennials. They are much more apt to create shopping lists on their phone and use coupons for those items if they can sift through coupons and add them to their smartphone,” said Vandiver. “Like mobile technology, Gen Y is the wave of the future—they aren’t going anywhere and neither is mobile. Nichols is 100% committed to meeting the needs of this shopper segment.”

“Through the Birdzi application, Nichols can now offer a unique shopping experience to its customers within a single application. Nichols also has the added benefit of reaching one of the fastest growing shopper segments,” said Shekar Raman, CEO, Birdzi. “With the addition of Nichols, Birdzi continues to increase our support for independent grocers in 2015 as they aim to engage shoppers and deliver personalized savings.”
