TCW Launches Emerging Markets Equities Mutual Fund

TCW Developing Markets Equity Fund Provides Exposure to Companies with Superior Growth Profiles and Attractive Valuations

LOS ANGELES--()--The TCW Group, Inc., a global asset management firm, today announced the launch of the TCW Developing Markets Equity Fund (TGDMX/TGDPX), a mutual fund focused on equity investing in emerging and frontier markets.

The TCW Developing Markets Equity Fund invests in the equity of emerging and frontier market companies, as well as companies that have substantial emerging markets exposure from an asset, revenue or profitability perspective. The Fund utilizes quantitative screens to narrow the investment universe, and then, through fundamentals-based research, integrates top-down country and sector allocation with bottom-up stock selection to identify investments with superior growth profiles and attractive valuations.

The TCW Emerging Markets team has extensive experience managing emerging markets equities. Its TCW Worldwide Opportunities Strategy, launched in 1987, is one of the longest-standing emerging markets balanced strategies in the marketplace.

“This new fund continues to build on TCW’s leading emerging markets franchise, which has some of the most experienced portfolio managers in the industry and today manages over $10 billion in assets,” said David Lippman, CEO of TCW. “As many investors have turned away from emerging markets equities, we believe now is a particularly opportune time to offer a dedicated fund to take advantage of the long-term potential this asset class holds.”

The Fund is managed by Ray Prasad as lead manager and Andrey Glukhov as co-portfolio manager. Mr. Prasad brings 19 years of emerging and international markets investment experience, and Mr. Glukhov has over 14 years of experience in the emerging markets. Messrs. Prasad and Glukhov will be supported by analysts Eric Fuller and Thomas Danhakl.

“We continue to see improving fundamentals and strong growth in many areas of the developing world, which presents compelling investment opportunities,” said Ray Prasad. “Our focused but diversified portfolio contains cash-generating businesses with capable management teams that are well-positioned to take advantage of the expected ongoing growth in developing markets.”

A Word About Risk

Equity investments entail equity risk and price volatility risk. The value of stocks and other equity securities will change based on changes in a company's financial condition and in overall market and economic conditions. Funds investing in mid and small cap companies involve special risks including higher volatility and lower liquidity.

Fund share prices and returns will fluctuate with market conditions, currencies, and the economic and political climates where the investments are made. Emerging markets securities carry special risks, such as less developed or less efficient trading markets, a lack of company information, and differing auditing and legal standards. The securities markets of emerging markets countries can be extremely volatile. The Fund’s investments denominated in foreign currencies will decline in value if the foreign currency declines in value relative to the U.S. dollar.
