Phenomenex Challenging American Red Cross to a Soccer Charity Cup Re-Match

TORRANCE, Calif.--()--Phenomenex, Inc., a global leader in the research and manufacture of advanced technologies for the separation sciences, has challenged local American Red Cross volunteers to a re-match during their second annual Soccer Charity Cup on Friday, June 26th at the Zamperini Stadium in Torrance, California to raise money for disaster relief and preparedness. Torrance Mayor Pat Furey, city council members, and American Red Cross CEO Jarrett Barrios will be in attendance for the epic sporting event.

As a long-standing supporter and board member of the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region, Phenomenex CEO Fasha Mahjoor has pledged to donate $1,000 per goal scored during the tournament. Following an American Red Cross victory in 2014, the Phenomenex “Phenoms” are ready to bring on a friendly but spirited athletic competition to take back the Charity Cup trophy. In the end, everybody’s a winner, as monies donated by Phenomenex during the Soccer Charity Cup will go directly to American Red Cross programs.

“Last year, hundreds of employees and Red Cross volunteers came out to participate in and support this high-energy event, bringing light to the incredibly important mission of the American Red Cross,” Phenomenex CEO Fasha Mahjoor says. “We were pleased to donate $10,000 to the organization last year, and I look forward to seeing great play and sportsmanship during the match this year as well!”

Phenomenex, a Platinum Award Winner for their excellence in yearly blood donation levels, has been known to concoct unique fundraising events for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief efforts and programs. Just last month they held a Funky Sock Sale for Nepal, raising over $5,000 for earthquake victims. Currently, employees have pledged to shave their heads or dye their hair bright colors to raise tens of thousands of dollars for charity through October. The company will give monthly donations on behalf of each employee, with the majority of these donations going straight to the American Red Cross.

"All of us at the Red Cross are so delighted with Phenomenex’s incredibly creative, out-of-the box fundraising activities – including the annual Phenomenex-Red Cross soccer game," said Jarrett Barrios, CEO for the Los Angeles Region American Red Cross. "In addition, we are so excited to see employees engaged in our mission – whether it’s through donating blood, partaking in preparedness training activities, or volunteering to support our services in the local community," added Barrios.
