BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Publicity Club of New England, the region’s oldest not-for-profit public relations trade organization, today announced that, as a result of the donations received from attendees during the 47th Annual Bell Ringer Awards Ceremony, a donation of $2,000 was made to the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC).
Each year, the host of the Bell Ringer Awards selects a charity to donate proceeds from the event. This year, NESN’s Producer and Co-Host of NESN’s Dining Playbook, Jenny Johnson, selected the PMC, a 192-mile bike-a-thon that raises funds for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. This year, Michele Sommer of the PMC was on hand at the House of Blues for the awards ceremony to accept the donation on behalf of the organization.
“The PMC is near and dear to my heart, because I’ve seen the impact they’ve had on the lives of so many,” said Jenny Johnson. “Having participated in the ride for years I’m always looking for ways to expand my support and grateful for this opportunity to do so.”
“On behalf of the PMC, I would like to thank the Publicity Club of New England, and Jenny Johnson, for their continued support of our organization and mission,” said Michele Sommer, PMC Director of Finance and Administration. “It was a pleasure being part of an evening that recognized great communications work and we appreciate the support from the local public relations industry and its membership.”

About the Bell Ringer Awards
In 1969, on The Publicity Club
of New England’s 20th anniversary, the Bell Ringer Awards
program was instituted to recognize public relations work which
demonstrates excellence in creative planning and professional education
and exhibits a high degree of success in reaching predetermined
objectives. Open to all New England practitioners, the program
symbolizes one of the greatest tributes in any field of endeavor – the
recognition of superior performance by one’s peers.
About the Pan-Mass Challenge
The Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) is
an annual bike-a-thon that today raised more money for charity than any
other single athletic fundraising event in the world. The PMC was
founded in 1980 by Billy Starr, who remains the event’s executive
director, an annual cyclist, and a fundraiser. The PMC has since raised
$455 million for adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. The event donates
100 percent of every rider-raised dollar directly to the cause. The PMC
generates more than 50 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue and is
Dana-Farber’s single largest contributor. The PMC has successfully
melded support from committed cyclists, volunteers, corporate sponsors
and individual contributors. All are essential to the PMC's goal and
model: to attain maximum fundraising efficiency while increasing its
annual gift. The PMC’s hope and aspiration is to provide Dana-Farber's
doctors and researchers with the necessary resources to discover cures
for all cancers. For more information on the Pan-Mass Challenge, log onto
