NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FanDuel, the leader in one-day fantasy sports, announced that baseball and football All-Star Bo Jackson will host their 2015 World Fantasy Baseball Championship at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on Friday, August 21, and Saturday, August 22, 2015. Jackson will also host FanDuel’s first ever Home Run Derby at Las Vegas’ Big League Dreams, providing batting practice and commentary for the best daily fantasy baseball players in the world, on Friday, August 21.
"As the unquestioned leader in the space, FanDuel is going out of their way to create an incredible experience at the World Fantasy Baseball Championship in August for their users,” Bo Jackson remarked. “It's a privilege to be able to host this event, do some batting practice with these fantasy players and award $1,000,000 to the winner."
The WFBC is the largest one-day fantasy baseball championship in the world, in which 90 fantasy players will compete in a one-day league vying for the first place prize of $1 million. Each participant qualifies through leagues on FanDuel.com, and is awarded a Las Vegas trip package that includes airfare, transportation, a three night stay at the hotel and a minimum of $10,000.
The 90 finalists will also have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to participate in batting practice with one of the greatest athletes of all-time in preparation for the “FanDuel Home Run Derby” on August 21. FanDuel will transform Big League Dreams into the “FanDuel Field,” where finalists will be treated like All-Stars themselves. The venue will feature a custom-built Outfield Video Wall, reminiscent of an MLB jumbotron, which will display players, their stats and will show other pre-recorded visuals. Guests will be divided into teams and the field will be split into sections, each designated for a different prize that teams will win if they hit into that area or by hitting a home run.
“Bo Knows FanDuel; and with him hosting FanDuel's World Fantasy Baseball Championship, we're giving fans the chance to compete in a Home Run Derby with one of the most iconic athletes of all time. Fans will then have the chance to win a million dollars through a fantasy baseball championship event the next day. This is something no other company in the world can offer sports fans,” said Nigel Eccles, CEO of FanDuel.
"I can't wait to go to Vegas for FanDuel's World Fantasy Baseball Championship,” Bo Jackson continued. “I'll be back on the baseball diamond playing against FanDuel's users, watching the games with them and handing a fantasy baseball player a check for a million dollars at the end of the weekend."
