Hocoma’s Valedo® Back Training System Now Also Available for Android

NORWELL, Mass.--()--Hocoma, a leader in the development of robotic and sensor-based medical devices for functional movement therapy, today announced the launch of an Android mobile operating system version of their Valedo® App available for free download on Google Play. Valedo is the first wearable medical device for the low back that combines physical sensors with sophisticated, yet intuitive software to motivate and guide users through fun and interactive exercises. Through consistent use, these movements can help back pain sufferers achieve sustained back health.

"We are very pleased that with the launch of this Android App we are now able to reach almost all tablet and smart phone users," said Frank Menzler, Executive Vice President of Hocoma Inc. "Based on technology used in professional rehabilitation and physical therapy settings, Valedo puts the power of back health into the hands of consumers. With the launch of our new Android App this cutting-edge new tool is available to motivate even more users to get moving.”

Grounded in movement science and physiotherapy, Valedo transforms biomechanical exercises developed by physical therapy professionals into fun, interactive games on a user’s mobile device. Unlike wearable technologies that simply track steps and heart rate, or gaming devices that are camera-based, Valedo’s sensors detect and respond to micro movements, ensuring that each exercise is tailored to the user and done correctly.

Valedo’s games guide users through a complete series of movements that take place in virtual “worlds” and are designed, over time, to improve movement awareness for increased stability and balance, restore motion to vertebral joints, and redevelop deep muscles for enhanced strength, all of which can help back pain sufferers achieve sustained back health. Intended for consumers looking for a way to continue the benefits of professional physical therapy at home, as well as for those interested in an alternative, self-help tool, Valedo offers 17 unique movements incorporated into 45 therapeutic and medically beneficial exercises that can be done at home or on the go.

Pricing and Availability
Valedo is available for purchase at www.valedotherapy.com for $359. Valedo is listed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Hocoma

A successful therapy begins in patients’ heads. In the firm belief that – step by step – they can reach their goals and regain quality of life.

This is what we work for at the Swiss medtech company Hocoma. With technologies and ideas that look at functional movement therapy from a completely different angle. Because they enable independent exercises and create maximum motivation. Because they challenge people to take courage and support their hopes with personal achievements.

We are committed to creating the ideal therapy. Our awarded robotic and sensor-based devices offer solutions for intensive gait therapy (Lokomat®), functional therapy of the upper extremities (Armeo®), robotic mobilization and functional electrical stimulation in early rehabilitation (Erigo®) as well as functional movement therapy within low back pain treatment (Valedo® Therapy Concept) at home and at the clinic. They are the result of intensive research, consistent development and continuous exchange with patients, therapists and partners in research and science.

Who wants to breaks new grounds has to stay open to exceptional ideas. They have the potential of being exceptionally effective. This guiding principle by Hocoma founder and CEO Dr. Gery Colombo has accompanied us since our start in the year 2000 and is still lived and implemented by our dedicated employees around the world. At the headquarters in Volketswil near Zurich (Switzerland) and the subsidiaries in the USA, Singapore and Slovenia they achieved a turnover of more than 30 million CHF in 2014.
