Satellite Healthcare Vice President of Clinical Applications Linda McCann Selected to Serve as Topic Expert for Revised Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes Practice Guidelines

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Satellite Healthcare, a leading national not-for-profit provider of dialysis services, is pleased to announce that Linda McCann, Vice President of Clinical Applications and Nutrition, has been invited to participate as a topic expert for the revision of the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) Practice Guidelines for Chronic Kidney Disease Mineral and Bone Disorders (CKD-MBD). These evidence-based guidelines and practice recommendations, which include a significant nutrition component, have been embraced by clinicians around the world and have positively influenced the identification and treatment of CKD-MBD.

“We are pleased, and not surprised, that Linda has been chosen from hundreds of experts in her field to join this critical KDIGO workgroup,” said Rick Barnett, President and CEO of Satellite Healthcare. “The important work she has done throughout her nearly 40-year career is a testament to her enduring dedication to improving the lives of people with chronic kidney disease.”

McCann, who played an influential role in helping to develop the original CKD-MBD guidelines published in Kidney International in 2009, will join 12 other workgroup members representing eight countries. The originator and editor of the popular National Kidney Foundation’s CRN Pocket Guide to Nutrition Assessment of the CKD Patient, currently in its fifth edition, she is the sole dietitian selected to participate in the workgroup. The group is tasked with analyzing data extracted from hundreds of scientific publications, an undertaking that is expected to continue throughout 2015.

In addition to her previous work on KDIGO guidelines for CKD-MBD, McCann has participated in other guideline development workgroups and advisory boards for KDIGO as well as the Kidney Disease Quality Outcomes Initiative (KDOQI-US), and frequently speaks and publishes articles. She has been recognized with numerous awards including the National Kidney Foundation Recognized Renal Dietitian of the Year, the Joel D. Kopple Award and Distinguished Lectureship in Renal Nutrition, and the National Kidney Foundation Champions of Hope Award.
