SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Triumph Motorcycles has donated a new Bonneville T100 motorcycle, customized by British Customs to be unveiled at the 2015 Quail Motorcycle Gathering, Saturday, May 16, 2015 in Carmel, California.
Triumph Motorcycles USA and British Customs have partnered with the Lipoprotein(a) Foundation to help raise awareness for high Lipoprotein(a)[Lp(a)]. The Lipoprotein(a) Foundation is a recognized 501c(3) patient-advocacy non-profit organization.
“One in five people globally have high Lp(a), and our mission is to reveal this hidden risk, educate and empower patients, and prevent cardiovascular events due to this inherited lipid (commonly known as cholesterol) abnormality,” said Lipoprotein(a) Foundation Founder Sandra Revill Tremulis. “And we achieve this through proper testing and diagnosis. Our goal is to save lives by increasing awareness, advocating for routine testing and supporting research that will lead to a specific treatment for high lipoprotein(a).”
Plans for the Triumph British Customs edition included having it customized to pay homage to the Triumph-powered Gyronaut® X-1 motorcycle that captured the world land speed record in 1966 at over 245 miles per hour. British Customs, America's leading Triumph-only designer and manufacturer, enhanced the bike based off the original styling by Alex Tremulis, which is found on the vintage streamliner. Anaheim Rod and Custom donated the custom Gyronaut X-1-themed paintwork. The customized Triumph, named “The Spirit of Gyronaut,” will then be auctioned in a premier event next year with the proceeds going to support the Lipoprotein(a) Foundation.

For me it is a personal mission to make sure the history of the sport is not forgotten and the proper credit is given to those that came before us such as Alex Tremulis, Bob Leppan and Jim Bruflodt,” said Panther.
Sandra Tremulis concurs, “This motorcycle epitomizes the teamwork that the original Gyronaut X-1 embodied to meet their goal of becoming the ‘World’s Fastest Motorcycle’ almost 50 years ago. Back then, we didn’t know much about lipids and high Lipoprotein(a), but technology has improved to the point where we know that high Lipoprotein(a) is the strongest inherited risk factor for heart disease and aortic stenosis.”
At age 39, Sandra Tremulis nearly died of a massive heart attack just like her father (http://youtu.be/1D3ahEbiLr4). In 1966, the Gyronaut® X-1 became the "World's Fastest Motorcycle" by averaging a speed of 245.667 miles per hour on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Styled by famed automotive designer Alex Tremulis, ridden by Triumph Motorcycle dealer Bob Leppan, and tuned by engine expert Jim Bruflodt, the bike held the title for four years.
