DES MOINES, Iowa--(BUSINESS WIRE)--UnitedHealthcare has donated $87,500 in grants to support 17 nonprofit and community organizations’ efforts to enhance their health and wellness programs that help Iowans live healthier lives.
One of the recipients, the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families, received a $25,000 grant to fund the “Connecting to Support Program,” which offers job training for people who are unemployed, as well as assistance connecting people with social service benefits.

We are proud to work with UnitedHealthcare to strengthen our programs, improve health and help people find long-term employment in the community,” said Marvin DeJear, director of the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working Families.
Additional UnitedHealthcare grant recipients include:
- Easter Seals Iowa – $10,000 for the Employability Program, which focuses on increasing prevocational skills to prepare people for community-based employment
- Special Olympics – $10,000 for the Healthy Athletes Program and Challenge Days
- Des Moines Area Religious Council – $5,000 for 12 food pantries located throughout Des Moines
- Salvation Army of Mason City – $1,500 for basic needs such as gas to travel to medical appointments, hygiene items, food, clothing and shelter
- Salvation Army of Des Moines – $1,500 to sponsor emergency relief and disaster assistance, and diaper coupons
- Food Bank of Siouxland – $1,500 to food bank “Food for Kids” giveaway of more than 2,000 sacks of healthy food to six Siouxland-area elementary schools
- Baby Closet at CrossPointe Church, Sioux City – $1,500 for program that provides free clothing and baby items for expecting moms, including a donation of diaper voucher coupons
- Food Bank of Iowa – $2,500 to support counties with mobile pantry and school pantry programs
- MICAH House Emergency Food and Shelter – $2,500 to support shelter services in Southwest Iowa as well as Sarpy and Douglas counties in Northeast Iowa
- Camp Hertko Hollow – $2,500 donation for diabetes camp education
- Upper Des Moines Opportunities Buena Vista County – $2,500 to purchase fresh food at Food Bank
- Food Bank of the Heartland – $5,000 to refurbish trucks used for mobile pantry and summer food program
- Community Kitchen of North Iowa – $5,000 to help toward food purchases
- American Diabetes Association – $7,500 to sponsor diabetes education in Des Moines
- ASK Resource Center – $2,500 for parenting information and advocacy
- Family Housing Advisory – $1,500 for homelessness prevention and education
