BREAKOUT SESSION:How to train your (ICD-10) dragon: Tips for your transition ‘War Room’” will look at the 2010 movie “How to Train Your Dragon” as a metaphor for the ICD-10 transition. Since the dragons regularly burn down villages, they have been dubbed as enemies. This perspective is challenged when a young but wise and observant character named Hiccup takes a chance and gets to know the mysterious Night Fury dragon, Toothless. Both sides end up discovering they have misjudged each other. This session will present Edifecs’ “Dragon Training Course” based on the field experience of more than fifty clients and the “War Room” strategies they are building that encompass reimbursement and population health, as well as provider-payer relations. By adopting these strategies, health plans and provider systems can create their own early warning systems that mitigate the risk associated with the ICD-10 cutover in order to get control over the ICD-10 dragon and, in so doing, avoid undesirable outcomes.
