London Data Center Comes Online, While Europe Team Gains New Leadership for Blue Box Cloud

Blue Box Cloud Lights in London with Partner TelecityGroup; Regional Sales and Partnership Efforts to be Led by Industry Veteran Steve Charnock

SEATTLE--()--Blue Box, a Seattle-based provider of on-demand OpenStack-powered hosted and on-prem private cloud-as-a-service solutions, has thrown the switch turning on its London cloud data center announced in March of this year.

In partnership with TelecityGroup, whom the company selected as its data center partner in London, Blue Box now has a second availability zone in Europe, with the first being in Zurich. Now available for new Blue Box Cloud implementations, their new point of presence launched on schedule, May 1.

“We chose TelecityGroup and its Powergate location as it is one of Europe’s most advanced, flexible and energy efficient carrier-neutral data centres,” said Hernan Alvarez, chief product officer at Blue Box. “When customers choose Blue Box, they’re trusting us with their most valuable assets, apps and data. Partnering with organizations that share our commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences, competitive pricing and game-changing services matter to our customers, and TelecityGroup delivers on all counts.”

TelecityGroup was selected by Blue Box based on its performance in several areas:

  • Top-notch operational practices and facilities
  • 39 facilities around the European Union
  • Exceptional brand awareness and reputation throughout the EU
  • Competitive pricing and customer-friendly terms / legal process

The move into London expands Blue Box to four locations: Seattle, Ashburn (Virginia), Zurich and London. The company’s new European data center provides EU residency to the hosted version of Blue Box Cloud, satisfying a growing need among our customers for private cloud hosted in an EU member state.

Alvarez observed, “The market is telling us loud and clear that they want fully managed private cloud as a service, both hosted and on-prem. Blue Box is delivering precisely this, in more places and faster than ever.”

New Team Leader in European Region

Concurrent with the opening of the London cloud site, Steve Charnock has been hired as commercial director EMEA for Blue Box.

Charnock joins Blue Box from CloudFabriQ Limited, a start-up utilising open source software to develop an OpenStack-centric, automated cloud infrastructure management platform. He led the team that secured lighthouse accounts such as Infinity SDC, Leicester University, Loughborough University and Sondrel plus a showcase deployment within IBM Hursley Innovation Centre. Previously, Charnock led sales and partnership efforts for EMEA at Infinity Storage, Juniper Networks and Brocade.

“Europe has been an early adopter in agile cloud,” remarked Charnock, “and private cloud as a service is an especially valuable go to market option for many EU companies due to the geographic and performance advantages it offers. Blue Box is an early market leader in the EU in this market sector, and I’m thrilled to lead our team in the region.”
