Chris Arehart, global product manager for crime insurance at The Chubb Corporation, addressed what he refers to as, “a new twist on an old approach—cyber extortion.” “Cyber extortion can be a real problem for a company,” Arehart said. “Let’s say an organization from overseas infects your computer here in the United States, by taking a piece of malware or ransomware, which immediately encrypts that entire computer’s context. Once this is accomplished that ransomware has your computer in a very vulnerable position and leaves your company with only two options, either lose the information or pay the ransom, which could be either small or considerable.”

Other people who appear in this episode include:

  • Jeremy Johnson, president and chief executive officer, Lexington Insurance;
  • Shawn Ram, executive managing director, Crystal & Company;
  • Cindy Slubowski, vice president of manufacturing, Zurich North America; and
  • Jayne Goddard, cyber technology & media underwriter at Barbican Insurance.
