From the Top of the World to the World Stage: “Chloe & Theo” Attracts Attention of World Leaders Convening to Solve Climate Change and End Extreme Poverty

Featuring Dakota Johnson, Mira Sorvino and first-time actor Theo Ikummaq, “Chloe & Theo” was spearheaded and produced by Monica Ord, with the support of John Paul DeJoria and Sir Richard Branson, with the goal of emotionalizing a climate change story and the effects to enact action to thwart the devastation of the Inuit people and their Arctic homeland due to human-induced climate change. WASHINGTON--()--Featuring Dakota Johnson, Mira Sorvino and first-time actor Theo Ikummaq and backed by executive producers Sir Richard Branson and Paul Mitchell founder John Paul DeJoria, “Chloe & Theo” will preview at the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund 2015 Spring Meeting in Washington, D.C. today.

Spearheaded and produced by Monica Ord, the film was catapulted to awareness by the success of "50 Shades of Grey’s” lead actor Dakota Johnson and earned a forum at the event. There, first-time producer Ord and Inuit lead actor Ikummaq will hold a private preview screening of the environmentally conscious story for policy makers and world leaders attending the conference. Ord produced the film with the goal of emotionalizing a climate change story and the effects to enact action to thwart the devastation of the Inuit people and their Arctic homeland due to human-induced climate change. Watch a trailer of the film here.

The film, distributed by Spotlight Pictures, presents the big hearted story of a homeless girl (Chloe) played by rising star Johnson, as she befriends an Inuit man, Ikummaq, who is making his acting debut. Ikummaq (Theo) journeys to New York City from “the top of the world” to convince leaders of industrialized nations to fight climate change before his birthplace and Arctic way of life disappear forever.

Climate Change Linked to Extreme Poverty

"All nations will suffer the effects of climate change, but the world’s poorest countries will suffer the most from rising sea levels, drought and food shortages," life sciences entrepreneur Ord said.

No better platform exists to reach policy makers and global leaders than the Spring Meeting of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund. There, leaders from countries around the world align to focus on actions to end global poverty.

Powerful Storytellers and Activists Lend Support

This is not Ord's first foray into issues of social justice or her only collaboration with Sir Branson or DeJoria.

Ord has spent the majority of her career as a biomedical executive and venture capitalist trying to find new promising treatments for disease and cancer. Through clinical trials, she witnessed that even the best treatments only saved a fraction of cancer patients. So she founded Citizen e-Cig in 2014 to create a safer alternative for at least one major cause, tobacco. Her mission with Citizen e-Cig is to help wipe out second-hand smoke, as well as the toxins and chemical damage associated with traditional tobacco. Sir Branson is so supportive of Ord's venture that he called it “ingenious and meaningful.” And Paul Mitchell founder DeJoria stepped up as an investor.

Celebrity Music Concert to Coincide with World Bank Group Meetings

In addition to the private screening, a trailer of “Chloe & Theo” will air during the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 18, 2015. Ikummaq and Ord will be on stage to deliver brief remarks, while No Doubt, Usher, Fall Out Boy, Mary J. Blige, Train and My Morning Jacket headline the high-profile event, with special guests Common and D’Banj, will.i.am and Soledad O’Brien will host the concert, which is expected to draw a 300,000+ audience and be seen by more than 20 million people worldwide on television.

Chloe & Theo is scheduled for a summer release in the US and foreign markets to follow. Spotlight Pictures is acting as the sales agent.
