Axis Introduces Sharpdome and Lightfinder Technologies in New High-End PTZ Dome Camera Series

AXIS Q61-E Series features new Sharpdome technology for sharp images in all directions, including up to 20° above the horizon. These compact PTZ cameras are suitable for indoor and outdoor applications with lowlight and challenging conditions, making them ideal for use in city surveillance, shopping malls, traffic monitoring and schools.

CHELMSFORD, Mass.--()--Axis Communications, the global leader in network video surveillance, introduces the unique Axis’ Sharpdome technology with the new AXIS Q61-E Series. Sharpdome technology, with its innovative mechanics and unique dome geometry, provides full scene fidelity and amazingly sharp images in all directions. The technology enables cameras to capture objects as much as 20° above the camera horizon, making these cameras suitable for uneven terrain. Axis’ unique Speed Dry function quickly removes water drops from the dome glass to provide clear images in rainy weather and also simplifies dome cleaning, allowing for more efficient methods such as high pressure cleaning.

The new camera series offers some of the market’s most compact and fastest pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) dome cameras, allowing operators to easily and quickly change viewing position and follow fast moving objects. The cameras offer 30x optical zoom, up to HDTV 1080p resolution and Lightfinder technology. The cameras also feature Wide Dynamic Range (130dB) to handle difficult lighting conditions and electronic image stabilization support for smoother video even in windy conditions.

“PTZ cameras are a very popular form factor for security because of their ability to cover wide areas and zoom in on different points of interest. However, to ensure the best possible image quality, a conventional PTZ camera cannot see above its own horizon. This challenge is a result of the protective dome, and limits its usefulness in certain applications,” said Fredrik Nilsson, general manager, Axis Communications, Inc. “Now with Sharpdome technology, operators can clearly see the full picture despite differences in altitude, such as with escalators, hilly roads or steep stadium seating. Combined with proven technologies like Lightfinder, WDR and electronic image stabilization, AXIS Q61-E Series is an attractive option for a variety of applications.”

AXIS Q61-E Series cameras are the first PTZ cameras with the innovative Lightfinder technology that provides excellent colors in low-light environments. AXIS Q6114-E offers Lightfinder and HDTV 720p resolution and AXIS Q6115-E features HDTV 1080p resolution. Both models offer full resolution in 60 frames per second.

To assist the operator the cameras offer Advanced Gatekeeper, a feature that makes the camera automatically pan, tilt and zoom to a preset position when motion is detected in a pre-defined area and then it continues to track the detected object.

The two camera models in the AXIS Q61-E Series can be installed either indoors or in challenging outdoor environments. The durable PTZ network cameras withstand extreme climate changes thanks to Arctic Temperature Control that allows the camera to function down to -58 °F. In addition, the cameras support automatic defog, which, when activated, automatically detects fog in the scene and digitally filters it out of view to provide clearer video.

The cameras are compact, nearly half the size of the existing AXIS Q60-E Series, and blend in seamlessly in any environment. They can be combined with Axis’ existing range of mounting brackets to meet specific mounting needs and the casing can easily be repainted to match the customer’s requirement.

AXIS Q61-E cameras are supported by the industry’s largest base of video management software through the Axis Application Development Partner Program, and AXIS Camera Station. The cameras include support for AXIS Camera Companion, AXIS Camera Application Platform, AXIS Video Hosting System and ONVIF for easy camera system integration and for application developers to provide the camera with intelligent capabilities.

AXIS Q6114-E/Q6115-E PTZ Dome Network Cameras are planned to be available in Q2 2015 at a suggested retail price of $2699 and $2999 through Axis’s standard distribution channels.
