SEOUL, South Korea--()--# A is a student starting his senior year in high school. He is watching a video his home teacher uploaded on ‘Classting’ instead of solving problems on a workbook. He repeats watching part which he cannot understand, and type questions on the board he’d like to ask.

# B is A’s school teacher. Instead of giving theoretical lectures to the students in the classroom, she uploads videos of her lecture on ‘Classting’. When the students come to class after watching the video, B helps the students about how to solve related problems. In this way, it has become much easier to teach the students one by one, when compared to teaching the whole class at once.

# C is A’s parent. She is worried whether her son is having any problems at school or if he is being bullied. However she can be relieved that her son is doing fine by the daily pictures and homework that teacher B uploads in the ‘Classting’ board.

Flipped teaching is a keyword that is often mentioned in the education world recently. A social platform called ‘Classting’ will be launching in Japan’s education market. Flipped teaching first started in United States, which is a method of teaching by students taking classes online as homework and then practice and discuss about it in the classroom. The traditional way of listening to the lectures in the classroom and doing practical exercise for homework has been applied reversely.

Classting is an education platform optimized for flipped teaching, allowing members to easily share videos and contents. Anyone can freely reply and exchange opinions, and it provides external links of streaming service such as YouTube. Also the additional functions of Classting specialized for the education field is a service that gathers knowledge delivery and output, adding convenience to class management.

First there is a ‘Smart Class Announcement’ function that allows teachers to efficiently deliver school policies to the students. If an announcement or assignment is registered by PC or a mobile device, it can be delivered to all the members in real time. The difference with SMS messages is that the service is entirely free of charge and file attachments and reservations can be made to be used as an assistant learning device with limitless amount of letters. Also the teacher can check which members did or didn’t read the announcement so it can be resent to those who did not read it.

Next there is an ‘Assignment Management’ function which stores all presentation data and reports of students. Each student can access Classting to upload their assignment and the teacher can easily manage these by categorizing them. Also the assignments can be shared among members to be used as place of collective intelligence.

Most of all there is a ‘Secret Counsel Room’ which is a unique function of Classting. Students can reveal their difficulties in school life. Generally there was negative perception of SNS being introduced in the classroom, but Classting is a closed platform specialized for the classroom and has eliminated the 1:1 messenger function so there will not be personal conversations within the members. Instead a secret counsel room function has been added so students may consult their problems in school life or concerns in learning. Counseling posts can be written anonymously and only the teachers who have the authority of class manager can read it. This is expected to solve bullying or school violence that often occur in the education field.

As in above, Classting has been approved of its value for practical use as an educational platform and has signed MOU with the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing (CRESST) in UCLA, USA. Currently a joint-research about the increase of academic achievement is being carried out.

Classting has currently 1.1 million students, 120,000 teachers and 300,000 parents from 60 countries as free members, with 150,000 classes actively participating in it.
