Sencha Creates Unified Development Framework for Building Applications for Any Device or Screen

Sencha Ext JS 6.0 Combines the Power of Ext JS and Touch, Extending Desktop Apps to Touch Screen Tablets, Laptops and Smartphones

SenchaCon 2015

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Sencha, a leading provider of HTML5 desktop and mobile web application development technology, today announced that it has merged its flagship Sencha Ext JS and Sencha Touch web application development frameworks into Sencha Ext JS 6.0. The release is in response to growing demand from enterprise developers charged with extending web applications from the desktop to the myriad devices workers use on a daily basis. Now, IT departments can create web application experiences across desktops, touch screen tablets and smartphones from a single JavaScript code base.

“Virtually every worker requires the right application experience at the right time no matter what screen they are using and today’s bifurcated approach to desktop and mobile web application development fails to deliver it,” said Art Landro, CEO of Sencha. “The merging of our two most popular frameworks is a giant leap forward to help enterprises meet the demand for optimal user experiences on the applications that power their business. Sencha Ext JS 6.0 transforms the way organizations develop web applications by giving them a single framework that is compatible with modern and legacy browsers and with the devices and operating systems used by today’s application consumers.”

The promise of web application development is that enterprises can deliver on users’ need to cost-effectively design and deploy applications across devices and platforms. As enterprises are increasingly tasked with delivering applications to the fragmented world of mobile devices, the application development lifecycle has become complex and unwieldy, constraining the timely delivery of new features and unnecessarily complicating application deployments for both IT and users. In addition, the migration from traditional, point-and-click, desktop computer applications to touch-based tablets, laptops and smartphones is a transition marked by significant software engineering re-work to resolve display and UX issues.

“A recurring problem in the enterprise world is developing and maintaining engaging applications across multiple platforms at reasonable cost,” said Al Hilwa, research program director at IDC. “As the number of different devices proliferate in the workplace, enterprises are gravitating towards application platforms that allow them to create, deploy and manage applications across multiple browsers, operating systems and devices.”

By providing a single JavaScript framework, Sencha Ext JS 6.0 delivers on the promise and enables developers to move applications from traditional desktop devices, including both modern and legacy browsers, to touch-screen devices such as tablets, touchscreen laptops and the most common smartphone platforms (iOS, Android, BlackBerry and Windows) with little to no modification to the existing code base. Now, enterprises can target a wide range of applications from one code base and extend the deployment lifecycle of these applications at minimal cost.

As a single, merged framework for all web application development, Sencha Ext JS 6.0 provides:

  • A single JavaScript source to build applications using a Model View ViewModel (MVVM) architecture (alongside the traditional MVC), providing key capabilities such as two-way data binding and modular and scalable web application development.
  • A common code base of core functionalities such as a data package, events and gestures system, dynamic loader and utility classes that works across the UI component trees offered by both Sencha Ext JS and Sencha Touch.
  • One of the most comprehensive sets of UI widgets, which developers can use to build applications that work across desktop, tablets and smartphones.

Sencha Ext JS 6.0 will be generally available in June 2015. To learn more about Ext JS 6.0 and the future of application development, attend SenchaCon 2015 on April 7-9 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Register here.
