PROVIDENCE, R.I.--()--The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) presented Citizens Financial Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Van Saun with a 2015 Corporate Social Responsibility Award last Thursday at its annual dinner in New York City. The Corporate Social Responsibility Award is given to an individual or corporation for demonstrating exceptional corporate citizenship.

In presenting the award, the FPA commended Van Saun’s leadership of Citizens’ commitment to community service and social responsibility. Citizens colleagues volunteered more than 59,000 hours of their time to thousands of charities and community organizations in 2014. Last year, the company contributed approximately $15 million to community activities. Roughly 450 Citizens leaders currently serve on community or charitable boards across the bank’s 11-state footprint.

“Bruce Van Saun is the public face of a financial institution that is part of the fabric of the communities it serves,” said Noel Lateef, FPA President and CEO. “For their demonstrated commitment to a robust culture of good corporate citizenship, the Foreign Policy Association takes pride in presenting its Corporate Social Responsibility Award to Bruce Van Saun and Citizens Financial Group.”

“It is very gratifying to see the efforts of our 18,000 Citizens colleagues recognized in this way, and I am honored to accept this award on their behalf,” Van Saun said. “Delivering on what we at Citizens call the three C’s – happy customers, engaged colleagues and thriving communities – is what society wants from banks and what makes banks successful. We aim to be a leader on this agenda. Banks have a special opportunity to do a great deal of good for a wide range of people. That's what drives me every day – and I know it also drives our team at Citizens”.

More information about the FPA’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award is available on the FPA website.

In addition to his leadership of Citizens, Van Saun is a director of Lloyd’s of London and has served on a number of other boards. He is a member of The Clearing House supervisory board and a fellow of the Foreign Policy Association.
