More Than 80 Physicians from Long Beach Memorial & Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach Recognized by Leading Report

“2015 Southern California Super Doctors” Recognizes Top Five Percent of Physicians

LONG BEACH, Calif.--()--Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach announced today that 81 of its physicians have been recognized among the best in their fields by the 2015 Southern California Super Doctors report.

The 2015 Southern California Super Doctors report recognizes the top five percent of active doctors in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The selection process relies on 10 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement, surveying physicians in Southern California and ensuring the physicians named are the most respected and talented in their fields.

“Each year, we see more of our physicians recognized for their excellent quality of work and the compassionate care they show to our patients,” says Divya Joshi, M.D., MMM, chief medical officer, Miller Children’s. “It is wonderful to know that every child entering our doors will be so excellently taken care of, and to witness the growth of new programs aimed at managing complex conditions.”

Since 2012, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center has seen year-to-year growth every year in the number of physicians recognized by Super Doctors. The list has grown by more than 50% during this timeframe.

When the Super Doctors report expanded to include all of Southern California in 2008, several doctors have appeared on the list every year. Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children’s and Community Hospital Long Beach have had 29 physicians achieve this status. Four physicians are making their first appearance on the list in 2015.

“The physicians we recruit are not motivated by public recognition, but driven by their dedication to our patients, their families and the community they serve,” says Susan Melvin, D.O., chief medical officer, Long Beach Memorial. “Their passion to find advancements in clinical care has proven to greatly improve the lives of the many adults and children who have walked through our doors. On behalf of my colleagues, I can say we are all proud to work alongside so many awarded physicians.”

The Super Doctors peer review selection process asks doctors to nominate fellow physicians by answering the question, “If you needed medical care, which doctor would you choose?” In addition, candidates were evaluated based on professional achievement, as well as the Super Doctors’ ‘blue ribbon panel review’ process, where physicians in more than 30 specialties evaluate the list of nominees.

Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children’s physicians were recognized in areas including pediatrics, obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine, gynecology and gynecologic oncology, cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, urology, family and internal medicine, surgery, medical oncology and hematology, dermatology, ophthalmology, pediatric and adult gastroenterology, pediatric hematology/oncology, physical medicine/rehabilitation and pediatric rehab (physiatry), reconstructive plastic surgery, neurointerventional radiology, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, sleep medicine, reproductive endocrinology, pediatric and adult critical care medicine and more.
