Ridgeland becomes first Mississippi city to qualify five areas for C Spire’s 1 Gbps fiber to the home Internet technology initiative

Madison County town turns another area “green” as part of nation’s first and only multi-city rollout of 100 times faster Internet access

RIDGELAND, Miss.--()--C Spire announced today that homeowner pre-registration exceeded the required threshold in a fifth area of the city of Ridgeland this week – helping it qualify for the company’s ultra-fast 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) Fiber to the Home Internet service and related super HD TV and home phone services.

Ridgeland’s Ann Smith fiberhood, which includes the Wendover, Shadowood, Heatherstone, Oakmont and Gallaghers Pass neighborhoods, reached its 45 percent pre-registration target Wednesday and now joins the Bridgewater, Old Agency East, Highland Colony North and Birdlanes fiberhoods, which qualified earlier this year for the service.

The city was one of the first to qualify for Internet access up to 100 times faster than the national average broadband speeds earlier this year along with four areas in the city of Starkville and the entire town of Quitman. C Spire turned up commercial service for its first residential customers in Quitman, Ridgeland and Starkville last month. Two other cities in the metropolitan area, Jackson and Clinton, are continuing efforts to qualify areas in their towns for the game-changing program.
