Airlines for America Names Public Affairs Communicator Melanie Hinton as Managing Director

WASHINGTON--()--Airlines for America (A4A), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, today named Melanie Hinton Managing Director for Airline Industry Public Relations and Communications. Hinton has nearly two decades of experience in journalism and public affairs, including most recently serving as Senior Communications Manager for the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International. There, she led multiple public relations and marketing initiatives to help the association advance its reputation on Capitol Hill, within the industry and with the media. She will start her position with A4A on Jan. 5, 2015.

In her role at A4A, Hinton will oversee airline industry and operations communications, and work with third-party supporters. She will report to Jean Medina, A4A’s Senior Vice President for Communications.

“Melanie brings the unique perspective of both a journalist and an aviation association spokesperson to her new role. Throughout her career, she has established herself as someone who excels at being an excellent communicator,” Medina said. “In her most recent role, she worked to underscore the positive benefits unmanned vehicle systems were making in people’s lives. The airline industry connects people and goods to the global economy every hour of the day, and we know the industry will benefit from Melanie’s very relatable experience.”

Previously, Hinton served as a Public Affairs Manager and Head of Campaigns and Events for the British Embassy in Washington, D.C. She also worked as Communications Manager for the National Association of Home Builders-Remodelers Council, and Industry Relations Coordinator for the American Nursery & Landscape Association. Early in her career, she was a Correspondent for the Evening Sun in Hanover, Pennsylvania, the North Hills News Record in Pittsburgh and the Pennsylvania Law Weekly. Hinton earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism/political science from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
