Peapod Commits to ADA Access for Individuals with Disabilities

CHICAGO--()--On Monday, November 17, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) announced an agreement with Ahold USA, Inc., and its affiliate Peapod, Inc., related to Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The agreement confirms Peapod’s commitment to make its website and mobile applications accessible and usable for shoppers with hearing, visual and other disabilities.

"We are pleased to enter this agreement with the Department of Justice as it reflects Peapod's long-standing commitment to make our online grocery services accessible to individuals with disabilities,” said Andrew Parkinson, President, Peapod. “We hope other online service providers will follow suit to ensure that the needs of this important group of shoppers are met."

Since its inception in 1989, Peapod has been committed to providing accessibility to individuals with disabilities and has taken affirmative steps to provide accessible features on its website. Starting as early as in 1993, Peapod has provided a screen reader accessible version of its website to aid visually impaired customers. In addition, Peapod has always provided telephonic assistance to customers with disabilities who have difficulty using www.peapod.com to ensure that their grocery shopping needs are met. In light of its long-standing commitment, Peapod will pay no penalties or damages under the agreement.

Peapod has adopted the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0 Level AA as its accessibility standard. The Guidelines are recognized as “best in class” and will ensure that Peapod’s online content remains accessible and usable to persons with disabilities.
