SAN FRANCISCO--()--San Francisco’s Exploratorium was among 13 real estate developments from around the globe selected as winners in the 2014 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Global Awards for Excellence competition yesterday, October 22, 2014, in New York. The Exploratorium, a world-renowned museum of art, science and human perception with a 45-year history in San Francisco, completed a historic move to its new home at Pier 15 on the city’s waterfront in April 2013. San Francisco-based EHDD and developer Wilson Meany were honored for the environmentally friendly development project on historic Pier 15, which incorporates an ultra-flexible building to support the museum’s ever-changing array of exhibits, and energy-efficient features such as a bay water heating and cooling system.

"The Exploratorium is thrilled to be chosen for this award," said Laura Zander, Exploratorium Chief Operating Officer, who accepted the award last night in New York. "The vision of Marc L'Italien and the EHDD team, along with the work of developer Wilson Meany, has elevated the Exploratorium's mission to change the way the world learns by creating a dynamic, accessible destination for our renowned museum, and an effective R&D facility for us to continue to develop innovative ways to teach and learn, all wrapped up in a renovated historic structure that has become an industry model for energy efficiency."

“We are honored to be receiving such a distinguished award for a project that touches the lives of so many people,” said Marc L’Italien, EHDD Principal. “This is a great reflection of the collaborative efforts between the Exploratorium and the external design and construction team. It’s been a career highlight to be associated with such a remarkable institution.”

The Urban Land Institute Global Awards for Excellence is widely recognized as the land use industry’s more prestigious recognition program. The competition, which is now in its 36th year, recognizes real estate projects that achieve a high standard of excellence in design, construction, economics, planning, and management.
