TAINAN, Taiwan--(BUSINESS WIRE)--National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Institute of Creative Industries Design (ICID) has proudly invited the established English artist, Phil Sayers, to deliver a talk on his forthcoming project, Re-inventing the Museum: Changing Places by Phil Sayers.
The talk will be held at ICID 5F Open Space on Thursday, October 23, 9:10-12:00am.
Phil Sayers masquerades as a woman in large-format photographs inspired by historical paintings mainly from the 19th century.
Women represented as passive helpless objects, or those who rebel against the patriarchal restraints imposed on them, are among the subjects exposed and challenged in these photographic works.
They adopt a feminist point of view to question and critique how women have been represented throughout history.
As a middle-aged transgender artist, Phil Sayers’ performances also subvert the age-old tradition in art and the media of the women usually being young, nubile and often eroticized by male artists.
