Clinical Laboratory Industry Icon Dennis Weissman to Retire from G2 Intelligence

32nd annual Lab Institute marks the end of an era for G2 Intelligence Founder and Executive Editor, renowned for deep industry knowledge and non-partisan leadership.

KEENE, N.H.--()--G2 Intelligence — a 30+ year leader in research, reporting, and analysis on the business of the clinical laboratory industry — announced today the retirement of its distinguished founder, Dennis Weissman. One of the nation’s leading experts on the clinical diagnostic laboratory and pathology sectors, Mr. Weissman leaves an impressive and vast legacy, punctuated by this week’s Lab Institute in Washington, DC.

Weissman founded what was then called Washington G-2 Reports 35 years ago to provide news and analysis for the lab industry — and has been a recognized thought leader in the field for even longer — providing ongoing education and advocacy for lab and pathology organizations through his work with G2 Intelligence. After selling the company more than a decade ago, he remained involved with G2 as an advisor and executive editor. He will leave G2 at the end of the year to pursue other ventures and interests.

With news of his retirement came an outpouring of tributes from industry colleagues:

“I’ve worked with Dennis for over a decade, and I can’t think of anyone who is more knowledgeable, more insightful, or is more delightful to work with than Dennis Weissman. I’ll never forget how helpful Dennis was to me when I came to the lab industry in 2003. He was always so generous with his time,” said Alan Mertz, president of the American Clinical Laboratory Association. “Dennis made Lab Institute what it is today, and we will never forget his contributions to this conference, and to the laboratory industry. Dennis, thank you for what you did to help me, and thank you for what you’ve done for laboratories!”

Francisco Velazquez, M.D., president and CEO of PAML LLC and PAML Ventures said, “The laboratory industry owes a significant debt of gratitude to Dennis Weissman for his leadership, his insight, and his unquestionable advocacy on behalf of the industry. His many contributions will have an everlasting impact in laboratories across the country for years to come.”

Joe Plandowski, industry veteran and President of Lakewood Consulting Group stated, “Dennis is truly a legend, a giant in the lab industry. His vision to begin Lab Institute was and still is coupled with his extensive knowledge of the industry and the federal government's impact on that industry. I have a great regard for Dennis' non-partisan approach to ‘telling it like it is’. He will be sorely missed.”

And Kathy Murphy, Ph.D., CEO of Chi Solutions, Inc. said, "Dennis has been an icon of the industry for decades — educating, challenging our thinking, guiding us to the future in his own indomitable style. He has impacted us all. We thank him for his contribution."

Daniel Houder, Publisher and President of Kennedy Information, G2’s parent company adds, “Dennis’s passion and dedication to the lab industry will have a lasting legacy on our organization and our mission to advance the business of diagnostic medicine. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.”

Mr. Weissman takes the helm of Lab Institute — the one event where lab medicine, business and technology, and public policy meet — one last time this week, October 15-17, 2014, at the Hyatt Regency Washington DC on Capitol Hill.
