ConteXtream Collaborates with Red Hat to Demonstrate the Benefits of SDN and NFV for Virtual EPC Use Case

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--ConteXtream, a leading provider of carrier-grade network virtualization solutions, today announced its collaboration with Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, on a demonstration of SDN-enabled virtual Evolved Packet Core (EPC) use case. Integrating Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform with ConteXtream’s ContexNet, a carrier-grade SDN fabric for NFV, this demonstration will showcase the benefits of SDN-enabling the virtualized EPC in service provider networks. The use case will be showcased during the SDN & OpenFlow World Congress taking place October 14-17 in Dusseldorf, Germany.

We worked with ConteXtream on virtualization of Gi-LAN as part of the OpenDaylight Project, and now we are collaborating on this new virtual EPC use case,” said Chris Wright, technical director, SDN and NFV at Red Hat. “Through our collaboration with ConteXtream, we are aiming to bring more value to our NFV customers.”

The current collaboration between Red Hat and ConteXtream has been designed to enable Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform to address various SDN, NFV and network virtualization needs. When used to SDN-enable the virtual EPC, ConteXtream leverages Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform to orchestrate the virtual components resulting in independent scaling of data and control planes, enable selective placement of functions which results in optimized service delivery through active steering of users and efficient traffic anchoring. The end result is a highly efficient, highly scalable carrier-grade infrastructure that is elastic, scalable and self-healing. This marks the second successful collaboration on expanding the use cases for SDN and NFV in service provider environments.

ConteXtream’s ContexNet leverages proven virtualization and grid computing technologies to enable operators to accelerate revenue growth through more rapid testing and introduction of new services or features; utilize local and remote network resources on demand; and reduce CAPEX and OPEX by automating network operations. ContexNet runs on standard, off-the-shelf computing platforms, creating a single, distributed and scalable SDN domain, dynamically linking network functions by steering the right traffic flows to virtual functions in the right sequence.
