Dow’s Kim Ann Mink Recognized as a Leader in Promoting STEM Diversity

MIDLAND, Mich.--()--A national organization dedicated to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) excellence has recognized Dow’s Kim Ann Mink as a leading voice for diversity in STEM fields.

Mink is part of the new publication “100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM” released Tuesday, Sept. 23, by STEMconnector® in print form and online. The publication offers insights from CEOs, presidents and executives at some of the country’s most influential companies, such as Dow, Intel, 3M, Boeing, Cisco, Disney and IBM.

“Kim Ann’s leadership in promoting STEM diversity exemplifies Dow’s ongoing positive impact at the intersection of science and society,” said Dow Chairman and CEO Andrew N. Liveris. “On behalf of the 53,000 women and men of Dow, I hope this prestigious recognition, along with our continued collaboration with STEMConnector®, inspires many beyond our company to take action as well.” Liveris himself was honored by STEMconnector® in “100 CEO Leaders in STEM,” released in 2013.

The Company has expanded its involvement in STEM initiatives in a comprehensive effort to help develop the workforce of the future. Part of that expansion was the creation of the STEM Executive Council, made up of senior leaders from across the organization, dedicated to crafting a corporate STEM strategy and ensuring its implementation. Mink is one of nine members of the Council.

“100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM” includes Mink’s perspectives on innovation, supporting teachers and promoting mentorship, as well as information about Dow’s extensive employee resource groups and the many STEM initiatives the company supports.

“Dow values the differing experiences, backgrounds and perspectives our employees bring, and we are committed to building a vibrant, diverse and talented employee base,” Mink explains in the publication.

In addition to serving as president of Dow’s Elastomers, Electrical and Telecommunications business, Mink is the North American co-chair for the Women’s Innovation Network, a forum for Dow people to share experiences, find mentors, seek professional development and gain access to senior leadership. Mink represents Dow on the Catalyst Board of Advisors, which guides the leading nonprofit membership organization working globally with businesses to build inclusive workplaces and expand opportunities for women. Mink also is a member of the National Board of Trustees for the ALS Association, a national non-profit organization fighting Lou Gehrig’s disease.

“She has been an important part of our success in making STEM a priority around Dow,” said Matt Davis, Corporate Vice President, Public Affairs & Government Affairs, and chair of the STEM Council. “This recognition is certainly well deserved.”

The selection process for “100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM” included thorough research and outreach to more than 100 CEOs for nominations. For each nominee, STEMconnector® gathered information in three areas:

  • The executive’s background and career
  • The company’s STEM position within its industry
  • The nominee’s perspective on a variety of issues in the STEM space, including mentoring and diversity

Publication of “100 Diverse Corporate Leaders in STEM” is the beginning of a year-long effort to advance the conversation on diversity and STEM. A national STEM TownHall, featuring several of the honorees, is scheduled to take place Oct. 22 via Google Hangout. Beginning Sept. 24, STEMconnector® will feature one executive per day as part of STEMdaily®, its daily online newsletter.
