Kapsch to present new traffic management solutions at the ITS World Congress in Detroit

V2X demo; presentation of a new back office architecture; and participation in a total of ten sessions at the World Congress for intelligent traffic systems

2014 ITS World Congress

VIENNA--()--September 7 through 11, 2014 all key players in the intelligent traffic systems (ITS) market will be congregating in Detroit. At this year’s ITS World Congress, Kapsch TrafficCom will be demoing its V2X system, a traffic management solution that enables communication between vehicles and the roadside infrastructure for exchange of information on current traffic situations (routes, hazards, incidents and obstacles). The company will also be presenting a new back office architecture for toll collection systems, and overall, be participating in ten conference sessions.

“The Americas have been gaining in significance for us more and more – in the past three fiscal years alone, our share of revenue coming from North and South America grew from 12% to 18% for a total of EUR 87 million. Just recently we initiated two new projects in the region: the establishment of an All Electronic Tolling (AET) collection system for the New York State Thruway and the installation of electronic toll collection zones in Texas, 11 of which are operational now. Our integration with Transdyn, a manufacturer of advanced traffic management software and traffic management systems, and our collaboration with Autofind in Brazil, have made it possible for us to further reinforce our position,” stated Georg Kapsch, CEO of Kapsch TrafficCom.

Extensive demonstration of achievements

Kapsch is extremely well positioned in the global market as an expert in electronic tolling. The World Congress is an opportunity to present new solutions that go beyond its core business of toll collection. One of the areas of focus will include a demonstration of a fully integrated end-to-end V2X solution. V2X refers to the communication between vehicles (V2V, or vehicle-to-vehicle) and between vehicles and the infrastructure (V2I, or vehicle-to-infrastructure), which creates a new level of intelligent traffic control.

The vehicle-specific traffic data collected on an ongoing basis via V2I can be integrated into central solutions and displayed on a variety of devices such as tablets, PCs, etc., (in this particular case, the solution utilized is DYNAC advanced traffic management software). The method implemented by Kapsch enables a highly precise, always up-to-date analysis of information on current traffic situations and any immediately occurring traffic emergencies. V2X therefore delivers improved traffic safety and better control of traffic flow. Information such as speed limits, detours, traffic jams, and accidents is displayed within the vehicle for prompt response and even defensive driving maneuvers.

Kapsch will also be presenting its new back office system as the second area of focus. This new, flexible system has been designed to support any number of transactional models such as prepaid, postpaid and cash across multiple toll collection systems including electronic, manual, microwave or satellite technology. A new back office solution such as this, with its modular structure, is in response to pent-up demand in the marketplace for more customer control over back office business rules. Viewed in strategic terms, procurers and implementers of larger-scale road user charging (RUC) schemes will be able to plan and implement projects with built-in capabilities for diverse transactional deployments. The new Kapsch back office solution facilitates interoperable business models, and as such, enables easy integration with other tolling agencies and their associated business rules.

Broad spectrum of topics in conference sessions

Kapsch will participate in a total of ten conference sessions at the ITS World Congress. The topics to be covered by experts from Kapsch range from economic issues related to traffic management, to strategic considerations involving planning and executing ITS projects, and to technology being deployed throughout the broad field of intelligent traffic management. “In Detroit we will demonstrate that we, as an Austrian company, can compete with the U.S. providers at all levels of technology as well as in driving innovation,” Georg Kapsch commented.
