WHAT:
More than 2,000 Vanguard employees from five sites worldwide will participate in the company’s third-annual “Run United 5k” event on Monday, September 8, 2014, to kick off of one of the largest local corporate United Way campaigns. Last year, Vanguard employees donated $6.5 million to benefit the hundreds of agencies funded by United Way. Participants may opt to run the 5k course through Vanguard’s campus or walk or wheelchair through a 2.5k circuit. Vanguard managing directors will be present at the event, and photo opportunities will be available before, during, and after the race.

4:00-6:15pm: Opening ceremony festivities, national anthem, and
remarks by Managing Director and head of Vanguard’s Retail Investor
Group Paul Heller.
6:15pm: Race starts.
7:00pm: Awards
and closing remarks by Kathy Gubanich, Managing Director of
Vanguard Human Resources.

Note: Vanguard’s main campus will close at 4:30pm to facilitate the race, but parking will be available at the Alexander building. If possible, please notify Vanguard PR if you plan to attend so that we can coordinate your arrival with the appropriate security officers.

For the third year in a row, Vanguard will kick off its United Way campaign with its Run United 5k run and 2.5k walk and wheelchair event on Monday, September 8, 2014. This free event caters to competition and recreation seekers alike and provides Vanguard employees with a chance to come together in the spirit of community and support of United Way. Crew members can participate in the event as part of a team or individually to receive one of six prizes. In an effort to promote fitness, Vanguard’s on-campus gym has helped prepare participating crew members by sponsoring fitness-building events throughout the summer.
Each year Vanguard participates in a two-week campaign across all of its U.S. sites with United Way, one of the nation’s largest charitable organizations with nearly 1,800 locally governed organizations dedicated to investing in local charities that focus on the community’s health and human service needs. Vanguard’s campaign consists of financial contributions as well as active participation in United Way-sponsored volunteer activities called “Days of Caring.” Through Vanguard’s support, United Way is able to further its mission “to unite people and mobilize resources to build better lives and stronger communities.” The theme of this year’s campaign is “Pay it forward.”
