David Knoepfler, MD, Named Overlake Medical Center’s Chief Medical Officer

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--After a three-month review of internal candidates, Overlake Medical Center President and CEO J. Michael Marsh has named Dr. David Knoepfler as the hospital’s chief medical officer.

Dr. Knoepfler has worked a majority of his career at Overlake, starting as a volunteer in the emergency department in 1983. He would later join his father Peter Knoepfler as a member of the medical staff. They were the first father-son practicing physician duo at Overlake.

An invested and involved Eastside native, Dr. Knoepfler attended Bellevue public schools through high school. He later attended the University of Washington through medical school prior to joining the Overlake medical staff.

Most recently, Dr. Knoepfler served as the hospital’s chief medical information officer. In this position, he engaged Overlake’s employed and community physicians in the development and implementation of the hospital’s Epic electronic medical record system, helping ensure that the new system properly supported the clinical care of Overlake’s patients.

“In his new role as chief medical officer, Dr. Knoepfler will be primarily responsible for clinical quality and patient safety — engaging physicians, administration and others on clinical integration opportunities, as well as emerging and innovative models of health care delivery,” said J. Michael Marsh, Overlake’s President and CEO. “He will also help Overlake continue its work to develop care across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient services.”

Additionally, Dr. Knoepfler will focus on building physician leadership, investment and participation across the organization, partnering with the chief of staff and the medical executive committee to inspire improvements and accomplish change when needed.
