Rivet News Radio adds Android Beta version

Innovative news app passes 100K user mark as personalized news sector heats up

CHICAGO--()--HearHere Radio Inc. is making its mobile news app available to Android users through the Google Play store today. The Android beta release is accompanied by news of more than 100,000 users of the app on iOS.

“We’ve hit encouraging benchmarks in the eight months since launching our iOS app, attracting more than 100,000 users around to world to hear news and information from our growing content team,” Rivet CEO John MacLeod said. “Releasing Android will further strengthen the Rivet brand.”

Rivet provides a personalized listening experience to smartphone users. With a foundation in traditional radio news storytelling, Rivet's in-house, veteran news team creates original news content and other programming. In addition, Rivet curates stories from other trusted media, such as The Associated Press, Chicago Public Media, the Chicago Sun-Times and Crain’s Chicago Business.

Rivet’s announcement comes at a time of significant activity in the field of personalized audio content. In recent weeks, NPR released the NPR One app to deliver individualized content to listeners while Apple acquired and shut down podcast delivery app Swell. Radio Disney is also making a switch to digital, unloading 23 of its 24 terrestrial radio stations.

“I’m confident we’re entering the most exciting period yet in this sector’s brief history,” MacLeod said. “And Rivet heralds the total re-imagining of how audio content can be delivered and personalized.”

Rivet News Radio is now available in the Google Play Store. The app continues to be available in the App Store.
