BOSTON--()--Loomis, Sayles & Company will host 34 recent high school graduates from the Boston Public Schools today for uAspire’s annual Last Dollar Scholarship Orientation. At the event, uAspire will award $34,000 in scholarships to these college-bound graduates. The event will feature a networking session where students will have the opportunity to learn the benefits of networking and practice with Loomis Sayles volunteers.

Last Dollar Scholarships help students cover unmet financial need after they have completed the college selection and financial aid review process. These scholarships, matched with uAspire’s college affordability advising services, help students overcome the financial barriers to higher education and lead to increased enrollment. 84% of uAspire’s low-income advisees re-enrolled in college for their second year, compared to 70% of college freshmen nationally.

“We are grateful to Loomis Sayles for their continued commitment to our mission of helping students reach their full potential regardless of their families’ financial resources,” said Gaby King Morse, Executive Director, uAspire Massachusetts. “Their partnership helps uAspire ensure that thousands of young people in the City of Boston and across Massachusetts have the financial support they need to forge an affordable path through higher education.”

Students will also receive care packages containing dorm room essentials that were assembled by Loomis Sayles volunteers. This is the third year that Loomis Sayles has provided these supplies, which are designed to alleviate some of the non-tuition related costs of attending college.

Annually, the uAspire Last Dollar Scholarship provides approximately $100,000 in funding to over 100 students in the City of Boston. Funding is distributed based solely on financial need for students who have worked with a uAspire College Affordability Advisor. The scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 and are renewable for up to six years.
