NANJING, China--()--The virtual torch of the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) on July 4th 2014 set sail for the West Pacific Ocean from the Mawei Harbour in Fujian Province, China. At 9:30am Beijing time, the captain of a scientific research vessel, as part of a routine research trip, received the virtual torch, which will then be passed on ‘virtually’ along with NanjingLeLe to a submersible vessel. The trip underwater containing the Virtual Torch Relay will travel deep down into the ocean depths of 5000 meters.

It is hoped that the deep sea leg of the YOG Virtual Torch Relay will help inspire young people to learn more about the field of deep sea science and to always explore, innovate and protect the environment.

Young people were invited to take part in the deep sea Virtual Torch Relay via the app (http://www.nanjing2014.org/cn/torch_nd.htm) so they could experience and learn more about the ocean and develop more environmental awareness.

Since the flame lighting ceremony for the Nanjing 2014 YOG, the Virtual Torch Relay has passed through more than 181 countries and regions. Enthusiasm for the Virtual Torch Relay APP continues to increase up to more than 70,000 downloads with 33 millions of hits from all over the world as of July 5th.

On July 10th, the Virtual Torch Relay is going to come back to the mainland of China and will start its internal trip around the country virtually. Chinese people are looking forward its coming and ready to welcome the Virtual Torch with their passion and vigor. The physical Youth Olympic Torch Relay with real torch will take place around the city of Nanjing from July 12th.
